When considering popularity and activity across radio airplay, online streaming, social engagement, and sales over a 12-month period this list is hardly a surprise.

Yes, Taylor Swift‘s 1989 promotional blitz paid huge dividends…but let us not forget that the music is first and the quality of these pop songs lead the way, bolstered by creative videos and a strong, fun tour.

It is hard to realize that just earlier this year The Weeknd wasn’t the mega-star that he has become around the release of Beauty Behind the Madness. The key here continues to be substantive material worked by a powerful team.

Mark Ronson is an interesting entry because he is more of a producer than a front man. For Uptown Special he once again assembled an amazing lineup of artists to work with, but his #6 spot is mostly due to the stratospheric success of Uptown Funk (ft. Bruno Mars), the #1 Song of 2015. Fans have definitely been more engaged with Mark Ronson’s tremendous musical output than with him as an act, but that is a hallmark trait of any great producer.

Let us not overlook how incredible it is for both Meghan Trainor and Fetty Wap to end the year in the Top 10. Though diametrically opposed in genre, these two new artists share the fact that they came out of the gates just completely on fire and made themselves superstars in an insanely short period of time.

Luke Byran gets a nod as being the only Country artist to make the Top 20 this year, a commendable feat when you see the Pop royalty around him.

The current Queen of Pop, Adele, pretty much got herself into the Top 20 on just a couple months worth of activity around her new album 25, another sign of just how powerful her music has been with fans.
