Emerging Artist of the Month: Wrabel

#10 Emerging Artists chart

#551 Ultimate 100 Artists chart

Pop singer/songwriter Stephen Wrabel has been developing for a couple of years now and is on the verge of a big breakout. Born in New York, the artist spent some time attending the Berklee College of Music before making his way to Los Angeles. The move was a good choice as he signed on to Pulse Recordings, joining a powerful lineup of songwriters and penning for the likes of Ellie Goulding, Prince Royce, Adam Lambert, and Pentatonix, to name a few.

Wrabel’s first big exposure as a singer came as 2014 got underway. Fans will recognize him as the featured vocalist on Afrojack’s Ten Feet Tall, which is actually a re-work of Wrabel’s original song. The track premiered in a Bud Light commercial during Superbowl XLVIII, garnering about as big an audience as is possible with somewhere around 100 million viewers tuning in. Ten Feet Tall went on to be a hit internationally, giving the kind of momentum that up-and-coming artists usually only dream about, along with coverage including Nylon, Buzzfeed, and The Huffington Post. Having signed to Island Def Jam in 2012 as a recording artist, his debut EP, Sideways, was released next, and included the original version of Ten Feet Tall.

Now signed on with Epic Records, it is Wrabel’s turn to truly step all the way out front with his big hook-having single, 11 Blocks. When the song was first released in June he got a little help from his friend Kesha who was a vocal early supporter. At the end of August he performed live on The Today Show, leading to an appreciable spike in streaming, sales, and social activity. The single is currently heading for the Top 10 at Hot AC radio and will soon make a move for Top 40 adds, backed up by the official video released in mid-September with plays that are already trending upwards.

Over the years Wrabel has played many live dates at key Los Angeles venues such as The Greek Theater, The Roxy, Hotel Café, Bootleg Theater, The Mint, and Room 5. He has now taken a huge leap, going out on tour through October as very well-paired support for Andy Grammer and Gavin Degraw. The experience of playing on some of America’s best stages for these kinds of crowds, coupled with the timing of his rise at radio and the video release, is sure to help fuel a long and fruitful run for this emerging artist.
