OK, stretch it out…you ready? We are…
It is that time of year once again, music lovers. And we don’t mean chestnuts roasting, Jack Frost nipping, and all that. Our favorite time means reviewing the year to see who came out on top with the most activity after yet another 12 months filled with non-stop great music from artists across the spectrum, starting with the Ultimate 100 Songs.

The first thing that jumps out at us this year is the fact that no less than six artists have two entries.
Luis Fonsi‘s Despacito is no surprise as this year’s top track after the amazing run that the remix had as The “Song of the Summer”, holding #1 for 16 of 18 weeks, with 14 consecutive, between May 4th and August 31st. The original version is no slouch either, finishing the year at #19. The remix debuted at #1 on Ultimate Latin Songs on April 27th (taking over for the original) and held that spot for the next TWENTY-THREE WEEKS with the original backing it up in the #2 spot for 22 of those. Between the two of them they also picked up four Latin Grammys and two American Music Awards last month.
Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, Imagine Dragons (back-to-back in the Top 10 at that!), Taylor Swift, and the the “newcomer” of the bunch, Post Malone, all also claim two spots each. We’ll take this moment to humbly remind you that Post Malone first appeared on our Emerging Artists chart way back in September, 2015 so don’t say we didn’t tip you off that this one was coming!
Sam Hunt has an incredible showing with Body Like a Back Road finishing at #4 and by far the top Country song of the year. Last year’s top Country jam, Florida Georgia Line‘s H.O.L.Y. finished at #18.
As for the now-solo members of One Direction, we see that Zayn grabs the highest finish with more than a little help from collaborator Taylor Swift and a huge movie connection on #12 I Don’t Wanna Live Forever (Fifty Shades Darker). Meanwhile, Niall Horan sits pretty all by himself with Slow Hands landing at #16.
Talk about a breakout track, Cardi B.‘s #15 Bodak Yellow muscled its way up the charts in the second half of the year, living in the Top 10 for 16 weeks, peaking at #3, and currently still hot at #13.
Camila Cabello is another artist who left a hugely successful group and ventured out on her own this year. Her song Havana (ft. Young Thug) debuted at #62 just a few months ago in August and has been in the Top 10 for the last 8 weeks, holding #1 for 3 of those weeks, including on the latest chart!
Glad we stretched it out first, aren’t you? Well, we are just getting started because the Top 20 artists of 2017 is up next!
